AMSA has launched myAMSA, a new online portal that lets seafarers apply for a near coastal certificate of competency without leaving home. You can lodge your application, upload what you need, and track its progress online — anywhere, anytime. The days of having to travel to a post office to lodge your paperwork are over.
What you can do in myAMSA
Through the portal you can apply for your next near coastal certificate of competency, submit your application and supporting details, and follow its progress right through to the outcome — all online, at a time that suits you.
How myAMSA verifies your identity
myAMSA uses the Australian Government's myID Digital ID app to confirm who you are securely. myID is managed by the Australian Taxation Office (ATO). If you don't already have a myID account, the ATO has a simple step-by-step guide to setting one up.
What this means for you
For anyone renewing or stepping up their near coastal ticket, myAMSA cuts the time and effort of applying. It's part of AMSA modernising its services so applications are faster and easier to manage in a digital age. If you're planning your next certificate of competency, it's worth setting up your myID now so you're ready to apply.
